BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE POLICY    

The baggage allowance on flights operated by Cyprus Airways is defined according to the ‘piece concept’ for tickets purchased on or after the 13thof May 2013. The policy consists of the following rules:   

1. Free Baggage Allowance
2. Excess Baggage Charges
3. Sporting Equipment
4. Musical Instruments
5. Pets
6. Items forbidden to be carried

 

Free Baggage Allowance

 The free baggage allowance for passengers traveling on Cyprus Airways flights* is differentiated according to the service class flown and has the following variations as regards the number of pieces and weight permitted.  

*This is applicable also for Cyprus Airways passengers traveling to/from the United States on Virgin Atlantic operated flights.

Notes: The dimensions quoted refer to the bag being at an upright position (standing) and include handle, pockets and wheels. The hand bag must be able to be fitted into the cabin’s overhead lockers and lifted unaided. Larger hand bags than those specified in the table above, should be carried as extra checked baggage items.

   

HEAVY & OVERSIZED ITEMS POLICY

The maximum weight limit per single piece of checked baggage is 32 kilos and the maximum dimensions are 190cm*75cm*65cm. Bags that exceed this weight and/or dimensions will not be accepted as checked baggage and can be sent as cargo at cargo rates. For more information please contact Cyprus Airways Cargo (Tel. TRANSIT PASSENGERS
  • Transit passengers ticketed on two or more international flights operated by Cyprus Airways and traveling in economy class may carry one checked baggage up to 32 kilos free of charge.
  • Transit passengers ticketed on two or more flights operated by Cyprus Airways and traveling in more than one cabin i.e. one sector in business and one next sector in economy class, are entitled to the more generous allowance for the whole journey (i.e. the business class allowance).
  • Cyprus Airways passengers traveling on a flight operated by other partner airlines or transit passengers traveling on a flight operated by Cyprus Airways and one or more flights operated by other partner airline/s may be subject to the charges of the other airline. REDUCED MOBILITY PASSENGERS 
  • Disabled persons and persons with reduced mobility are allowed to carry 2 wheelchairs or other mobility aids free of charge in addition to the free checked baggage allowance (per person with reduced mobility). Wheelchairs will be carried irrespective of weight. However if the wheelchair weighs over 32kilos please notify the airline at the time of making your booking. For battery operated wheelchairs, the weight and dimensions as well as the type and number of batteries must be declared at the time of reservation.  
  • In addition to the above, disabled persons are allowed one piece of baggage up to 32 kilos. 

 

TRANSPORTATION OF OTHER ITEMS 

     The following items can also be carried in cabin, free of charge. 

  • One laptop/Notebook.  
  •  A lady handbag or purse;  
  •  An overcoat;  
  •  An umbrella or walking stick; 
  •  A personal camera;  
  •  Reasonable amount of infant’s food for consumption on the flight;  
  •  Passengers traveling with infants or children can bring a fully collapsible pushchair and car seat; 
  •  Pair of crutches/braces.   

You may also keep the wheelchair or other walking aid you depend on until you board the aircraft.

Excess Baggage Charges

 

Overweight and/or oversized baggage and additional pieces of baggage can be carried at a charge, as per the table below. These charges apply by checked portion for each of the geographical zones defined:

Sporting Equipment  

 

The sporting equipment can be carried free of charge if it is within the free baggage allowances limits specified here. If it exceeds these limits, the following charges will apply by checked portion for all geographical zones:

Small (up to 15 kilos and 1.40m length) such as collapsible bicycles, sporting/hunting guns, fishing, archery and diving equipment (except oxygen bottles) and all other equipment.

Medium (16 - 32 kilos and 1.41 - 2.00m length) such as surf equipment and all other equipment.

Large (33 - 50 kilos and 2.01 -2.77m length) including windsurfer boards, kayaks, hang gliders, vaulting poles, canoes and all other equipment

The above categorization of the sporting equipment is indicative and it may differ in practice according to the dimensions and/or weight of the specific equipment. In all cases the relevant category’s charges will apply based on the actual dimensions and weight of the sporting equipment.  If the carried equipment dimensions or weight or items exceeds the specifications of the category ‘Large’ above then it may not be accepted as checked baggage and may have to be carried as cargo. Sporting equipment will only be accepted if it is packed properly (so that damage is avoided) and consists of no more than the following items:

 

  • Golf equipment (maximum dimensions 190cm * 75cm * 65cm)

§  One bag (containing a maximum of 14 clubs).

§  A dozen balls

§  One pair of golf shoes

§  A large golfing umbrella

 

  • Ski equipment (must be packed in a separate recognized ski or snowboard bag:

§  One pair of skis (or water skis).

§  Ski boots (packed separately with skis)

§  Poles

§  A mask or helmet

 

  • Bowling equipment:

§  Bowling ball

§  Bowling shoes

 

 

  • Diving equipment:

§  One empty diving bottle

§  One scuba regulator

§  Buoyancy control jacket

§  Mask

§  Pressure gauge

§  One set of fins

§  One spear gun (unloaded with spears packed separately)

§  Snorkel

§  Diver’s knife

§  Weight belt

  • Archery equipment:

§  One bow

§  One quiver

§  Arrows

  • Fishing equipment:

§  Two rods

§  One reel

§  One pair of fishing boots

§  One tackle box

§  One landing net

 

  • Bicycles should be packed, their handlebars should be fixed sideways, their pedals removed or fixed inwards and their tires should be flat.

 

  • Sporting/Hunting guns can be accepted only as checked baggage or cargo provided that are packed in a separate weapons case. The above table charges will apply in each caseIt can be carried free of charge as checked baggage only if no other checked baggage is carried and it is the only piece to be checked in. Total weight of ammunition for sporting purposes cannot exceed 5 kilos (packaging included) per passenger. Specific standards need to be fulfilled, including packaging in a solid packet (plastic or carton). Musical Instruments 

 One piece of musical instrument may be carried in the cabin (free of charge) in addition to the free hand baggage allowance provided that its weight is up to the hand baggage allowance and its dimensions fulfill the specifications below:

A musical instrument may also be carried at an extra seat (max weight 75 kilos) provided that the seat will be reserved and paid (price will exclude passenger surcharges and taxes - no additional checked baggage allowed for this seat).  

Additional piece/s of musical instrument/s will also be treated as checked baggage or cargo accordingly and the relevant charges will apply.

Pets 

 Cyprus Airways accepts certain types of pets on its flights either in the cabin or as checked baggage or as cargo provided that they are accompanied by valid health and vaccination certificates, entry permits, and other documents required by countries of entry or transit. Cats, dogs and household birds can be carried in the cabin, provided that the total gross weight of the pet (i.e. including the container’s weight) does not exceed the 8 kilos and the dimensions of the container do not exceed the 48 * 35 * 29cm. This is subject to exclusion dates and/or destination. PETS transported either in the Cabin or as checked baggage will be charged as follows:

  • Cyprus Airways strictly follows the IATA Live Animal regulations for the carriage of Live Animals on our flights.
  • For cats and dogs carried on CY flights, the containers used must be according to the IATA Live Animals container requirements.

Dangerous Goods, or prohibited items on aircraft, are items that may endanger the safety of an aircraft or persons on board the aircraft.
